Chief Electoral Officer of Assam Mukesh Sahu said that elaborate security plan has already been drawn across the state ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam.

Sahu said this on Monday while addressing a press conference and added that around 33 companies of Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) have arrived in the state and more forces are likely to arrive ahead of the polls.

A total of 2, 17, 60,604 eligible voters in Assam are all set to cast their votes in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state, which will be held in three phases—April 11, April 18 and on April 23.

There are about 28,143 polling stations across the state, out of which 3,663 are identified as hyper sensitive and 1,913 are identified as critical polling stations.

Sahu further informed that there are 1.20 lakh ‘D’voters in Assam this time.

The D voters are voters with doubtful citizenship credentials and they are not allowed to cast their votes.

“The electoral rolls are revised till the last date of nomination. The ‘D’ voters if they can clear their names through the tribunal before the final date of revision of the electoral rolls can cast their votes,” Sahu said.
