IMPHAL: Manipur government has ordered all schools, including government aided, private, and central institutions, to remain closed for three days starting May 28 until May 31.
This decision comes in response to the widespread destruction and inconvenience caused by incessant rains and floods triggered by Cyclone Remal.

Official Directive
An order issued by the Directorate of Education (S) stated, “All schools of the state, Government, Government Aided, Private and Central Schools, which are not yet under Summer vacation, will stay closed on the 29th of May, 2024, 30th of May, 2024, and the 31st of May, 2024. During this period, all activities at the schools, including the admission process, should not be taken up.”

The directive comes amidst alarming reports that several rivers in the region are nearing their danger levels.
The Nambul River, Manipur River, and Kongba River are reportedly on the brink of overflowing, posing a severe threat of inundation.
Government Response
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh assured the public that measures are being taken to regulate the rising water levels.
“One gate of the Ethai Barrage has been opened for 30 cm. We are closely monitoring the situation, and any further openings will be done in consultation with the Water Resources Department (WRD) and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC). Our official teams are working tirelessly around the clock to manage this situation effectively and ensure the safety of the people,” Manipur CM N Biren Singh said.
Site Inspections and Safety Measures
The Manipur chief minister personally inspected the situation at Kangla, emphasizing that necessary measures are underway to protect the site.
State security forces, officials from the Water Resources Department, and volunteers are collaborating to address the crisis.
