Curtain comes down on the first ever state level Tribal film festival in Amity hall at Chingmeirong in Imphal on Tuesday.  The three-day fest was organised by the State Level Tribal Films’ Festival Committee (SLTFF) Manipur. The theme of the fest was ‘Striving for Excellence,’ where Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar said films are the most important medium to take the lead to cultural integration and peaceful co-existence among communities in the state.

“Most of the films reflected social atmosphere from time to time and it gives us the message to re-think on issues which can be addressed collectively or individually,” he said. “Resemblances in culture and traditions are also reflected in films.”

Tribal film directors and producers were honoured in the closing ceremony. A total of eight films from Zeliangrong, Anal, Chothe, Kuki, Tangkhul, Aimol and Inpui were screened during the festival.

Meanwhile Chairman Dr Gairiangmei Maringmei of the SLTTF submitted a memorandum to the state government urging the authority to open film theatres in all the hill district headquarters. They also want the state government to earmark funds for organizing the festival annually and to give financial assistance for conducting awareness campaign, seminars and workshop on tribal film making and documentaries.
