Imphal: Tension gripped Khurai Lamlong Keithel in Manipur’s Imphal East district on August 22 after unidentified miscreants opened fire at a local eatery in the early hours of the morning. The incident occurred at around 2:10 am under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station.

According to police sources, four to five rounds were fired at the hotel, which is owned by Koijam Joymati of Khurai Lamlong. The eatery is locally known for selling Khechri.

No injuries or deaths were reported in the incident as the hotel was closed at the time of the shooting.

However, the gunfire damaged the property. Stray bullets pierced the structure, broke utensils and damaged plastic chairs inside the premises.

The ownerโ€™s residence is located directly opposite the hotel, raising concerns about the safety of residents in the area.

Local residents later gathered to stage a sit-in protest against the incident. They raised slogans condemning the gunfire and called for an end to attacks targeting civilian properties and livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Porompat Police Station has registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the shooting. Security patrols have also been increased in the area.
