IMPHAL: Accompanied by Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh, Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, filed his nomination papers on Wednesday (March 27).

The elections for Inner Manipur Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency is scheduled to take place on April 19.

Th Basanta Kumar Singh submitted his nomination papers at the office of the Inner Manipur parliament constituency returning officer (RO) on Wednesday (March 27).

Thounaojam Basanta Kumar, a sitting MLA and the education minister of Manipur, is the son of Th Chaoba Singh, a former union minister.

He hails from Utlou in Imphal West district of Manipur.

A retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Basanta Kumar is contesting in the parliamentary elections for the first time.

During the submission of his nomination papers, Basanta Kumar was accompanied by Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.

Speaking to the media, Manipur CM Biren Singh expressed confidence that the BJP candidate would secure a significant victory in the Inner Manipur parliamentary seat.

Basanta Kumar affirmed his commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur, stating, “With the support of the central leaders, I will strive to bring back peace and stability to the region.”

He will be contesting in a multi-cornered competition for the Inner Manipur seat.
