One of the world’s biggest shoe and sports apparel company Adidas recently presented branded shoes to weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won a silver medal at Tokyo Olympics 2021.
Adidas presented the branded shoes to the Olympian recently when she visited the Adidas store at The Promenade Mall in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on August 13, 2021.
During her visit to the Adidas store, she also met young weightlifters and spent time hearing about their aspirations, the challenges they face and what inspired them to take up weightlifting as a sport.
While sharing a picture of her customized shoe and a poster signed by her on her Twitter handle on Saturday, Mirabai Chanu wrote: “What a day with my @adidas family! Always exciting to see how the next generation of girls are taking to the sport. Looking forward to trying my new customized lifting shoes, thank you #adidasindia.”
The poster at the Adidas store has a quote from Mirabai Chanu where she says: “I see possibilities of lifting up my community”.

Tokyo was the second Olympics for the 27-year-old weightlifter.
Mirabai Chanu, who hails from the Imphal East district of Manipur qualified for the 2016 Olympics in the
women’s 48kg category.
Mirabai feels that more girls of the country will come forward and take up sports.
“My journey from a remote village to representing our country at an international event, clearly showcases that sport doesn’t care about gender or stereotypes. In our society, weightlifting has always been perceived
as a male-dominated sport, it took a lot of courage and hard work to break such stereotypes,” she said.
“I want women to dream and believe in themselves to be able to see possibilities,” the Olympic medallist said.
During the event, Sunil Gupta, senior director, Brand Adidas, said, “We are extremely proud of Mirabai’s
success, and it gives us immense pleasure to be a part of her incredible journey.
“Our aim is to enable all athletes including our partners to achieve their ‘impossible’ by providing them with the best products in training and competition. I hope her success inspires young girls to believe in their dreams and see possibilities of fulfilling them,” he added.
Chanu has been with Adidas for the last two years and the shoe and sports apparel company.
Mirabai Chanu was recently roped in by Amway India as its new brand ambassador.
In 2018, international sportswear giant Adidas India signed an endorsement deal with Assam’s sprint sensation Hima Das.
The young athletic sensation was made the brand ambassador of the Indian entity of the German global sportswear giant.
