Imphal: A village defence volunteer was injured after he shot himself with his gun accidentally in Thoubal district of Manipur.
The 30-year-old Meitei village guard was seriously injured as his licensed gun accidentally went off, while he was cleaning it, at his residence on Tuesday night.

The victim, identified as Athokpam Sidharth, is a resident of Thoubal Athokpam area.

The incident happened when Sidharth unintentionally shot himself, causing a self-inflicted wound in his chest, as he was cleaning his double barrel gun.

He was immediately rushed to the Raj Medicity Hospital in Imphal.
His condition is stated to be critical.
