Earlier this month, the Assam Police apprehended 12 Bangladeshi nationals from the Hatsingimari area of South Salmara-Mankachar district.

They were nabbed while trying to return to Bangladesh after a brief stay in different parts of India.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and state police later deported them to Bangladesh.

Influx of Bangladeshi nationals into the Northeastern states, including Assam, has been on the rise ever since the neighbouring country has witnessed political unrest.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma last month said more than 108 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Assam so far.
