The Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Rededication Day) was observed on Wednesday to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Manipur along with the rest of the country.
The state level observation was held at the conference hall of Manipur Secretariat (South Block) with the State Chief Minister N Biren Singh as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren remembered Indira Gandhi’s contributions in safeguarding the integrity of India and bringing the country forward towards advancement and development.
Urging the people of the State to take the pledge of strengthening the integrity and unity of the country following her ideals, he said that Indira Gandhi was an outstanding and dedicated leader of the country who was so prominent at the international level as well.
He also urged the people to uphold her principles and make India a powerful and united country.

Stating that the day was observed on the death anniversary of the former Prime Minister to remember her sacrifices made for the country, he also expressed serious concern over alleged involvement of some functionaries of a civil society organization in Nagamapal blast which claimed the life of one CRPF man and injuring another.
In his presidential speech, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar opined that the strength of the country lies in its unity.
On the death anniversary of former Prime Minister, the present generation must appreciate Indira Gandhi’s roles in nation building and maintaining unity, the Deputy Chief Minister said.
He said that the country should never forget her sacrifices.
Ministers, MLAs, high ranking civil and police officers also attended the observance.
Teachers and students of Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College presented patriotic opening and closing songs.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (I) also observed the day in the morning where former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader O Ibobi Singh and MPCC (I) president T N Haokip led congress leaders in paying floral tributes to Late Indira Gandhi at Congress Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.
In another development, honouring the priceless contribution of Sardar Vallabhai Patel towards unifying the country, the State also observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at the Parade ground of 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion, Imphal on Wednesday.
