Infantry Day is celebrated to commemorate the successful landing of Indian Army at Srinagar Airfield on October 27, 1947 to defend Jammu and Kashmir against an invasion by tribal militias and Pakistan Army

Guwahati: The Indian Army on Sunday commemorated the valour and sacrifices of the brave Infantry soldiers by organising numerous ceremonies in the Northeastern states of Manipur and Nagaland.

Ceremonies were held at Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland on the occasion of 78th Infantry Day.

The Infantry Day or Shaurya Diwas, is celebrated every year on October 27 to commemorate the successful landing of Indian Army at the Srinagar Airfield on October 27, 1947 to defend Jammu and Kashmir against an invasion by tribal militias and the Pakistan Army.

The battle of 1947 was the first successful military operation of independent India.

To mark the occasion, solemn wreath-laying ceremonies were held at the war memorials in Leimakhong and Zakhama honouring and remembering the courage of the fallen heroes of the Indian Army’s Infantry Corps.

A documentary, showcasing contributions of the Infantry Corps in various operations was screened during the occasion, underscoring their role in safeguarding the nation.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Red Shield Division, officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), soldiers and Army veterans paid homage to the brave soldiers.

It symbolises the bond between the generations of soldiers and their shared commitment to duty by sharing the stage for celebrations.
