Imphal: Manipur joined the rest of the world in observing the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh leading the state-level celebration at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal.
The event witnessed the participation of over 900 people, including students, government officials, yoga enthusiasts, security personnel, and members of the public. The Governor led the gathering in performing yoga asanas and encouraged citizens to make yoga a part of their daily lives.
Observed under the theme โYoga for Healthy Ageing,โ the programme highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and emotional balance. Participants across the state joined millions around the world in celebrating the ancient Indian practice.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries described yoga as a timeless gift of India that fosters physical well-being, mental resilience, and inner harmony. They noted that yoga promotes a balanced lifestyle and empowers individuals to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives at every stage.
Taking to social media, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla wrote, โAs we embrace this ancient practice, let us reaffirm our commitment to wellness, mindfulness, and a healthier future for all.โ He further emphasized that yoga continues to inspire collective well-being and inner balance.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh also shared his message on Instagram, stating, โHonoured to join the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 celebration in the esteemed presence of the Governor and Home Minister Shri K. Govindas Singh.โ
The Chief Minister reiterated the Manipur government’s commitment to promoting yoga to build a healthier and stronger society. He also extended his wishes to the people on the occasion, urging them to embrace yoga as a way of life.
The celebration reflected the growing awareness of yoga’s benefits and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to encouraging holistic health and wellness among its citizens.
