Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday highlighted the urgent necessity of sustaining peace and restoring normal life across the state, while noting both positive developments and recent setbacks in conflict-affected regions.

Speaking at the 8th Foundation Day celebration of the Chingamakha Nambul Mapal Development Committee (C.N.M.D.C.) in Imphal, the Chief Minister referred to his recent visits to Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Senapati and Ukhrul. He observed that communities including Kuki, Paite, Hmar and Meitei in Jiribam have begun coexisting peacefully again, with families returning to their homes and even sharing meals. He also recalled personally joining members of different groups during such interactions.

However, he expressed concern over the recent Tronglaobi explosion that resulted in the death of two children and left their mother critically injured, describing it as a serious blow to ongoing peace-building efforts.

The Chief Minister stated that the government is making sustained efforts to rebuild trust among communities and bring back normalcy, stressing that durable peace can only be achieved through collective participation from all sections of society. He also cautioned that certain vested interests continue to disrupt harmony for their own benefit, urging citizens to identify and isolate such elements.

During the programme, the Chief Minister distributed cash awards and certificates to meritorious Class X and XII students from both BOSEM and CBSE streams. He also called on residents to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness in the Chingamakha Yanglem Leikai Nambul Mapal area and its internal roads.

The event was attended by C.N.M.D.C. President Dr. Sanasam Shantikumar Singh, Ward No. 16 Caretaker Councillor Thokchom Eliza Devi, local residents and other dignitaries.
