Digboi: Assam’s Digboi-based researcher Konark Jaishy has received international recognition after his paper was accepted for presentation at the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2026, to be held in Tampere, Finland from September 13 to 17.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has approved his participation as an author and will provide full financial support under its Platinum Jubilee Global Partnership Advancement Scheme, funded through the Institute of Eminence initiative.

Jaishy completed his schooling in Digboi at Delhi Public School up to Class X, where he performed well academically and secured a perfect 10 CGPA in the matriculation examination.

He later completed his higher secondary education in New Delhi and pursued a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from VIT-Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu.

He went on to join IIT Kharagpur for his M.Tech in Vision and Intelligent Systems and is currently working there as a research scholar in advanced technology domains including artificial intelligence and computer vision.

His paper has been accepted after international peer review, and he will participate in IEEE ICIP 2026 under the โ€œAuthor Conference Registration โ€“ SPS Student Memberโ€ category.

He will also take part in student networking sessions, including the Student Job Fair and Young Professionals Networking events.

According to an official communication from IIT Kharagpurโ€™s Office of International Relations, the institute will cover conference registration, travel, visa, medical insurance, daily allowance and other approved expenses.

Jaishy is the son of Narayan Jaishy, a former employee of Assam Oil Division (AOD), Digboi, and Ranjita Devi Jaishy.

His achievement has been welcomed by family members, educators and residents of Digboi.

Several organisations in Assam, including those representing the Gorkha community, have also congratulated him and described his success as a matter of pride for the state.

They expressed hope that his work will encourage more students from the region to pursue research and innovation.

His journey from Digboi to an international scientific conference has been viewed locally as an example of academic progress emerging from Assam.

He is scheduled to present his research in Finland later this year.
