Imphal: The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHUR) has strongly condemned the burning of Molnoi Kuki village located along the Indo-Myanmar border, alleging that Tangkhul Naga armed militants carried out a planned attack on an indigenous Kuki settlement.

According to the organisation, around 13 houses out of nearly 20 in the village were reduced to ashes in the incident. However, no casualties were reported as residents fled the area before the attackers could move further into the settlement.

KOHUR has demanded the immediate deployment of adequate Central security forces in Molnoi and nearby Kuki villages to prevent further incidents and ensure the safe return of displaced families. It has also called for a time-bound, independent investigation into the attack, along with the identification, arrest and strict prosecution of those responsible.

The organisation further sought urgent relief, rehabilitation, compensation and the establishment of permanent security infrastructure, including a dedicated outpost in vulnerable border villages.

Meanwhile, the Naga Village Guard (NVG), Eastern Command has rejected the allegations linking the Tangkhul Naga community to the incident. It stated that it had no involvement in the attack and clarified that it does not interfere in matters across the Myanmar border, where internal conflict has been ongoing for several years.

The NVG further suggested that the incident may be a spillover of unrest within Myanmar and condemned attempts to blame the Tangkhul Naga community, calling such claims unfounded and damaging to its image.

Separately, Manipur Police clarified that Molnoi Kuki village is located in Myanmar, about 2 km from Border Pillar No. 113 in Kamjong district and therefore the incident does not fall within Indian territory.
