Imphal: Normal life was paralysed in Kangpokpi district of Manipur on Friday due to the 48-hour shutdown called by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) in protest against the alleged fake intelligence report of 900 Kuki militants entering Manipur from Myanmar to launch attack on Meitei villages on September 28, 2024.

Shutters of shops and other business establishments were down as markets remained closed and vehicles remained off the roads.

Schools, colleges and educational institutions were closed during the first of the two-day shutdown called by the CoTU, an apex body of the Kuki-Zo community.

Movement of vehicles was totally restricted with volunteers, predominantly women, monitoring key areas of Kangpokpi, including the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway-102.

However, medical services, vehicles on airport operations, religious activities and media persons were exempted from the shutdown.

Many supporters of the strike, mainly the womenfolk, were seen blocking the roads at Gamgiphai.

The day, however, passed on peacefully with no untoward incident being reported from any part of the district during the shutdown.
