Schools, colleges and educational institutions were closed during the first of the two-day shutdown called by the CoTU, an apex body of the Kuki-Zo community.

However, medical services, vehicles on airport operations, religious activities and media persons were exempted from the shutdown.
Many supporters of the strike, mainly the womenfolk, were seen blocking the roads at Gamgiphai.
The day, however, passed on peacefully with no untoward incident being reported from any part of the district during the shutdown.
