Guwahati: Security forces conducting a joint operation in Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts of Manipur recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and combat materials.

Based on a tip-off, a team led by the Indian Army along with the personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) and Manipur police launched a joint operation in the fringe areas of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts, Kohima-based Defence PRO, Lt Col Amit Shukla, said.

An explosives detection dog squad was also incorporated in the operation by the Indian Army. The extensive search operation led to the recovery of an arms cache purportedly used by miscreants, he added.

The recovered weapons include a sniper rifle, a heavy calibre launcher, a pistol, a single-barrel gun, several live rounds of ammunition and multiple combat materials, he said.

The recovered weapons were later handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation and disposal, he informed.

Lt Col Shukla said the security forces remain vigilant and committed for an early restoration of peace and prosperity in violence-hit Manipur.
