Hojai Police rescued kidnapped businessman Abu Hanifa from Mikirati Hawgaon Reserve Forest area near the sluice gate under Daboka Police Station in Hojai on Monday within a short span after his abduction.

According to police officials, Abu Hanifa was kidnapped from Mubarak Basti in Hojai district in the wee hours of May 14.

As per information, Hanifa went to Guwahati for purchasing paddy processing machine along with one of his relatives and one Jalal.

Hanifa parked his Maruti 800 vehicle at one Abdul Karim’s residence and hired a Bolero pick-up van.

Later, on his way from Guwahati, he visited his father-in-laws’ house at Nagaon’s Samaguri to unload the machine.

“Hanifa reached Mubarak Basti at around 1 am on Monday where he parked his car. But four unidentified persons covering their faces with black cloths informed Hanifa that his vehicle needs change of tyre and forcibly asked to accompany them. As he joined them, he was kidnapped by the miscreants,” said sources.

After a case (no 178) was lodged at Murajhar Police Station in Hojai, a police team led by Hojai Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhanita Nath in cooperation with Daboka Police and Murajhar Police launched an operation following which Hanifa was rescued from Mikirati Hawgaon Reserve Forest area.

“But the miscreants managed to flee from the scene,” sources added.

Later, the victim was sent to Daboka Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
