A leader of Assam BJP’s youth wing along with three others was held on Sunday at Jalukbari here for alleged involvement in gold smuggling.
Policed officials said a team of city police and CID nabbed the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha (BJYM)’s Jalukbari unit, Rajib Dhar and three other youths during a search operation near Saraighat Bridge at Jalukbari here and seized two gold biscuits from their possession.
Officials said the three other accused has been identified as Uttam Haldar, Rajesh Mandal and Jaydeb Mandal. According to police, they brought the gold biscuits in a WagonR from Howly in Barpeta district.
Sources said BJYM leader Dhar hails from Maligaon area of the city and is a close associate of local MLA and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health minister (MoS) Pijush Hazarika. The profile picture of Dhar’s Facebook account is seen with minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
