In first of its kind of event along the LAC on the Eastern Border, a total of 70 personnel of Chinese Army and 30 civilians participated in joint Yoga sessions with Indian Army troops at Nathu La (Sikkim) and at Bumla and Wacha-Damai in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

Participation of Chinese Army Personnel in such an event during Border Personnel Meetings will go a long way in promoting peace and tranquility along the borders, said Indian Army officials

The event assumes significance against the backdrop of 21 June 2019 which is being celebrated by India as 5th International Yoga Day, they said.

On the other hand, the Eastern Command with an aim to promote better mental and physical health of people through Yoga celebrated 5th International Yoga Day on the theme ‘Yoga for Heart’ all over the command.

A large number of troops, their families and local citizens participated from far flung areas of the East and Northeastern region to spread awareness and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Various workshops were organised by the units of Eastern Command at Kolkata, Dimapur, Shillong, Tezpur, Tenga, Missamari, Tawang, Sukna, Panagarh and all other military stations involving the local population to create awareness about Yoga and encouraging people to incorporate this form of exercise as a means to achieve a healthy life, said a defence PRO .
