In synchronization with rest of the world, the 5th International Yoga Day was celebrated in Assam’s Hojai on Friday under the aegis of Hojai district administration at the Swarn Jayanti Hall in Desh Bandhu Vidya Pith High School.

At around 6:30 am, the programme began with lighting of the lamp.

Deputy commissioner of Hojai district Tanmoy Pratim Borgohain, superintendent of police Ankur Jain, Pankaj Deka, ADC and officials from all the departments graced the occasion and performed yoga.

The deputy commissioner reiterated the words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he said in Ranchi while addressing the nation that, ‘Yoga for peace, harmony and progress’.

The deputy commissioner urged the people of Hojai district to perform yoga or any physical exercise daily to enjoy a healthy life.

Emphasizing on yoga, superintendent of police Ankur Jain said, “Yoga activates blood flow in body thereby release harmful toxins from body, so each and everyone irrespective of their age should try to indulge in yoga and exercise in their daily routine.”

Hundreds of school children, college students, people from all walks of life participated in this programme and performed various asanss shown by the yoga guru and president of Hojai Patanjali Yoga Samity, Gopal Das along with yoga trainers Munni Das, Shyamal Das, Maheshwar Das, Achitananda Dalalji Lumding, Mahesh Sarkar and Millan Das.

Earlier in the beginning of the event, through projector live telecast of International Yoga Day programme from Ranchi, Jharkhand where Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the occasion was screened.

Other venues such as CRPF camp, Lachit Yoga Kendra, SOS Children’s Village and many other schools and social organizations marked the celebrations.
