The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) has started preparations for the 4th edition of Research Conclave from March 8 to March 11, 2018.

Addressing media persons in the city on Wednesday, student convener of the event, Prince Kumar Baranwal said, “Our aim is to increase awareness among the students of the region regarding various research works being carried out in pioneering institutes and universities of the region.”

The Research Conclave 2018 is an amalgamation of academia, industry and start-ups with a wide range of events, workshops and competitions.

A major highlight will be oral, poster and model presentation by different institutes of the Northeast and across India to showcase their ongoing research works.

The conclave is also aimed to encourage the students’ community for an interdisciplinary approach.

“So far, we have received 600 registrations for the event,” said Bikash Sah, a student member of the organizing committee, adding, “Last year, we hosted over 5,000 students.”

“The conclave is open for all students from the school level to the university level. We have received good response, especially from schools in Goalpara, Nalbari as well as in and around Guwahati,” Baranwal added.

On the second day, renowned physicist and author of Concepts of Physics, Dr HC Verma will grace the event as the Guest Speaker and will address the students and the faculty members.

Other prominent speakers to be present are former ISRO Chairman, Padma Shri AS Kiran Kumar; Prof Yuji Iwahori from Chubu University of Japan; Dr Raksh Vir Jasra, Senior VP of Reliance Technology Group.

There will also be an ‘Institute Open Day’ where young minds will get the opportunity to explore various facilities at IIT-G.

Baranwal, while speaking about the ‘Institute Open Day’, said, “There will be laboratory visits for all so that it can be a learning experience.”

A start-up challenge ‘Redstart’ will also be organised.

The conclave will also provide a platform for start-ups to exhibit their products and ideas for the industries and the academia.

Organized by the IITG’s Students’ Academic Board (SAB), the conclave will also serve as a platform to nurture the young minds towards research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

It will also serve as a bridge between the innovations made in research to their actual implementation in the industries.

Various workshops on topics such as Internet of Things (IoT), multi-touch and augmented reality, patenting and copyrights will also be held at the conclave.
