Bordumsa: Fresh violence reportedly broke out in Bordumsa in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Friday amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with an All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) member reportedly injured in a confrontation.
The member, identified by AAPSU in a social media post as Khoda Lazer, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Visuals circulating from the incident showed him receiving medical attention for head injuries. The circumstances leading to the reported assault and the identities of those involved have not been independently established.
Security forces from across Changlang district were mobilised in Bordumsa and adjoining areas following the incident to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.
The confrontation came a day after a hearing on claims and objections related to the 49/33-Bijoypur polling station was disrupted at the Panchayat Hall in Bordumsa.
An official notice issued by the Office of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Bordumsa, on September 3 said the hearing under the SIR of Electoral Roll, 2026, was scheduled for that day at the Panchayat Hall.
According to the notice, 222 of 252 Form-6 applications and 150 of 303 Form-7 applications were heard and disposed of. The proceedings could not be completed after a disturbance at the venue involving objectors and their supporters, the notice said.
The ERO subsequently adjourned the hearing on the remaining 30 Form-6 and 153 Form-7 applications and rescheduled it for September 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ADC Conference Hall in Bordumsa.
The notice said claimants and objectors whose cases had already been heard on September 3 were not required to attend the fresh hearing. Those with pending cases, along with electors against whom Form-6 and Form-7 applications had been filed, were directed to attend.
The Booth Level Officer of the 49/33-Bijoypur polling station was instructed to publicise the revised schedule and inform the concerned claimants, objectors and electors individually.
Copies of the notice were circulated to the MLA of 49-Bordumsa-Diyun, Roll Observer, District Election Officer, Superintendent of Police, Changlang, Officer-in-Charge of Bordumsa Police Station, ZPM Bordumsa, Gaon Burah representatives, the Joint Action Committee, Bordumsa, and other concerned authorities for necessary action, including security arrangements.
AAPSU alleged that its activist was attacked during the incident and warned against threats or harm to its members involved in SIR-related duties. The students’ body also raised concerns over alleged bogus or questionable voter entries and called for strict verification.
Meanwhile, All India Chakma Students’ Union (AICSU) president Drishyamuni Chakma appealed to applicants and objectors to maintain peace, cooperate with agencies conducting the SIR and allow the statutory process to continue. He said a team, along with leaders of local community-based organisations, would visit and assess the situation in Diyun, Bordumsa and Miao.
The latest incident has added to tensions surrounding the electoral-roll revision in the Bordumsa-Diyun area, where the administration is also dealing with the challenge of completing the verification process while maintaining law and order.
