Meanwhile the apex student body of the state the Mizo Zirlai Pawl has issued a statement saying that they would take the issue of illegal immigration if the state government does not take appropriate action.

“40 lakhs persons from Assam have been omitted in the National Register of Citizens draft which was published recently by the Assam government, the porous Mizoram-Assam boundary will sure be one tempting target for these illegal residents, we strongly urge the Mizoram government to take more actions to curb this infiltration,” L Ramdinliana Renthlei, president of the MZP said.

The student body has stated that student volunteers would be deployed along the strategic points in Mizoram-Assam boundary if the state government fails to act to prevent what they called a possible ‘mass exodus.’

“We will set up check gates at strategic locations on August 15 if we are not convinced by the state government actions,” L Ramdinliana Renthlei said.
