A four-month-old baby elephant was rescued on Wednesday by forest officials at Lezai Lalmati in Tinsukia Gaon under Dibrugarh forest range of upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district. Lezai Lalmati is 35 km from Dibrugarh forest range.
According to forest officials, when locals informed them about the baby elephant they immediately rushed to the place and rescued it.

The baby elephant was the part of an elephant herd lost on its way and fell into a pond.
“We have brought the baby elephant at Dibrugarh forest range office and his treatment has been going on. The baby elephant was suffering from dehydration and his condition was bad,” said a forest official.
According to locals, every night the elephant herd comes out from the nearby Dehing Medela reserve forest and entered in the village.
