Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi does not believe that Assam would get an error-free National Register of Citizens (NRC) on August 31.

โ€œThere are several incidents where genuine Indian citizensโ€™ names were not included in the draft NRC.โ€ said Gogoi while talking to media on Saturday.

โ€œThere are also reports of names of foreignersโ€™ included in the NRC,โ€ Gogoi added.

Gogoi also said, โ€œIn the Assembly, BJP legislators are now questioning the NRC process, which means that they doubt the government of India, which is involved in the NRC update process.

โ€œI had doubt about the NRC but now I am convinced that it will not be error-free,โ€ Gogoi asserted.

Slamming the BJP-led government both at the Centre and the state, Gogoi said the BJP came to power assuring to make Assam free from foreigners.

โ€œI want to ask them as to how many foreigners have been detected and deported in the last five years,โ€ Gogoi said.

The former Assam chief minister said, โ€œEarlier, the BJP-led government was satisfied with the NRC work. But suddenly they are finding it erroneous.โ€

โ€œWhy has chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal not taken up with the union ministry of home affairs if it is not satisfied with the NRC work?โ€ Gogoi questioned.
