Former president of the Tripura BJP, Ronajoy Kumar Deb, has resigned from the saffron party as he was denied party ticket for the ensuing Assembly polls.

Ronajoy Kumar Deb, who led the Tripura BJP for five years, from 2001 to 2006, in his letter to Biplab Kumar Deb, president of the Tripura BJP, stated, “Since the party has decided not to nominate me from the Bagbasa Assembly constituency (in northern Tripura) in the assembly elections… I have decided to resign from the party.”
State BJP spokesperson Mrinal Kanti Deb has reportedly termed the resignation of former Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief as “unfortunate and unexpected”.
Ronajoy Kumar Deb had joined the party in early 80s and had has immense contributions for the growth of the party in Tripura.

Mrinal Kanti Deb stated that he should not have quit the party just because that he was denied a party ticket.
Ronajoy had written the resignation letter on January 27, but made it public before the media on Saturday.
Ronajoy who was actively working for the BJP for the last several years, lived in England from 1962 to l984.
For the 60-member Tripura Assembly polls, while BJP has fielded party candidates in 51 seats, its poll ally the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has fielded candidates in rest nine seats.
After series of discussions, the BJP and the IPFT, a tribal-based party agitating for creation of separate State – Tripraland – containing Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council areas, had finalised a seat-sharing agreement
