Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani in the late evening on Wednesday himself conducted a raid in a stall located at Chagalhati area of Dhubri town and busted another gambling den. Three persons have been arrested in this connection.
As per information, it has been alleged that in the stall where the raid was carried out, there was rampant sale of ‘Ending game’ tickets.
Sources said, “Gambling has been going on in the stall starting from early in the morning to late night by managing the local police since the last couple of years in the broad day light without any interruption.”
The locals have appreciated the recent move of the Deputy Commissioner, Dhubri to curb the gambling menace which has affected the Dhubri town like a chronic disease.
A conscious section of people expressed their concern on several occasions about the rising trend of such illegal practice gambling as a large section of youths mostly belonging to the BPL and daily wage labourers have been spending their daily hard-earned money in the name of buying ‘teer’ and ‘ending game’ tickets.
Earlier on May 2, 2018, the Dhubri district administration busted a gambling den within the interval of 45 days on the outskirts of Dhubri town. “This time one policeman has been arrested from the spot while other gamblers managed to escape,” said Bistirna Barua, Executive Magistrate of Dhubri, who conducted the operation.
Acting on a tip off, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri, Ananta Lal Gyani, directed the Executive Magistrate concerned to conduct a raid in Yubraj Club located near Naya Masjid on the outskirts of Dhubri town and a gambling den, run by the members of the club since long, was busted.
Yubraj Club was the third club of Dhubri town, which has been sealed for running illegal activities, by the district administration.
Earlier, District Magistrate Gyani had himself carried out a similar operation in Boys Club of Dhubri town and sealed the club besides five persons were arrested for being involved in gambling racket while another club namely Gadadhar Club within the town was also sealed by the administration on March 15, 2018.
