Arunachal Pradesh home minister Bamang Felix on Thursday urged the police officers and personnel to clear the common misconception among the public that a police station is only a collection center or a place for punishment.

Felix, who was addressing the inauguration function of Doimukh police station’s new building, said, “If we want to have a peaceful environment and avoid law and order situation, we must make the people trust and have faith on us.”

The minister at the same time also urged the public to corporate with the police for maintaining a peaceful environment and to curb anti-social activities in the area.

“The police alone cannot control the law and order situation unless there is support from the public,” Felix said while adding that a police station is for reformation and should be treated as a rehabilitation center for the greater interest of the wrong doers.

While speaking on the inter-state boundary issues, Felix said the case is still pending in the Supreme Court.

He, however, said it is the duty and responsibility of the people living on the border areas of Assam and Arunachal to maintain a cordial relationship with each other, the same which has existed for ages.

Earlier local MLA Tana Hali submitted an eight-point memorandum in front of the home minister demanding establishment of an IRBN Headquarters with training center at Tallumso under Tarso circle, creation of police station at Yupia, out-posts at Sangdupota circle and Bagoli-Denka (Gumto Circle) and posting of adequate manpower at Gumto police station.

Also to speak on the occasion, was Capital Complex superintendent of police Tumme Amo who
briefed the minister about the requirements of the district.

Amo also urged the minister to allocate separate fire and emergency service station for both
Sagalee and Doimuk.
