Union home minister and BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday said the NDA government will pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) soon and the refugees will get all rights like any other Indian citizen.
Amit Shah said this while addressing public meetings in Kolkata on Tuesday.
“I want to reassure all refugees that the Narendra Modi government is about to bring CAB and the refugees will have same rights as every other citizen of India,” said Amit Shah.
“They (refugees) will have right to elect the government as well as become the PM like any other citizen of India,” added Shah.

Shah asserted, “Now the tables have turned and no matter how much opposition is there against the CAB, the Narendra Modi government will bring the Bill and give citizenship to all the refugees. This message must reach each individual in Bengal.”
Shah assured that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will be passed in the Parliament to accord Indian citizenship to all Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Jain and Buddhist refugees.
Raising the issue of illegal immigrants, Shah said the people are being misguided on the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
He said, “Today, I have come to clearly lay down our policy on this issue in front of the people. I want to assure from this public platform that all refugees who have had to undergo atrocities and returned to their motherland, the government of India would not expel them from India.”
“I appeal to everyone not to do vote bank politics on such sensitive issues. Telling lies just to play with the emotions of innocent people would only get you ill fate,” Shah further said.
Union home minister Shah reiterated the government’s stand of ‘not even one illegal immigrant would remain in India and not a single refugee would be expelled from India’.
“No country can bear the load of crores of illegal immigrants. Such a thing needs to be stopped once and for all. If this step is not taken, it would compromise with our national security,” he added.
He also talked about the historic connection of Bengal and the demand for removing Article 370.
“Wherever I visit across the country, I see wholehearted support for the bold decision taken by Modiji in removing Article 370. The son of this soil, Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee, crusaded for a united India with Kashmir as its inalienable and integral part,” said Shah.
Referring to the slogan ‘Ek desh me do nishan, do pradhan, nahi rahenge, nahi rahenge’, Shah said, “Modiji turned this slogan into reality by removing Article 370 and making Kashmir truly an inseparable part of India.”
