With the general election in Bangladesh is nearing, the Border Security Force (BSF) has tightened patrolling and vigil along the India-Bangladesh frontiers.

Bangladesh is going to general elections on December 30, 2018.

Media reports quoting a BSF official said: “Keeping in mind the general elections to the Bangladesh Parliament, we have further increased the security along the India-Bangladesh borders.”

BSF Tripura Frontier officiating Inspector General (IG) Ashok Kumar Yadav told the media: “BSF troopers are always ready to deal with any kind of situation.”

The official also said: “We have asked the BSF commanders and the troopers to keep a close watch on the borders. Patrolling has also been increased.”

However, the BSF official ruled out any possibility of mass infiltration during the general election.

Meanwhile, according to Bangladesh media reports about 400-450 platoons of army troopers have been deployed in 389 areas in 270 constituencies across Bangladesh to assist with the poll process.

As per media reports, the Election Commission of Bangladesh earlier announced that the army would be deployed as a striking force across the poll-bound country.

The soldiers would remain in the field until January 2 or till the end of the 11th Parliamentary elections, media reports further said.

The security forces, as per media reports, have been deployed to build up confidence among the people and political parties.

On Monday, two militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura, who were hiding in Bangladesh, surrendered before the BSF officials.

Media reports quoted BSF’s acting IG as saying that around 50-60 cadres of Tripura militant outfits were still hiding in their temporary camps in Bangladesh, mostly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
