Parliamentarian from Shillong, Vincent H Pala, who is also the Congress candidate for the prestigious seat in ensuing Lok Sabha elections alleged that the BJP and its allies have failed to resolve the issue related to the ban on coal mining by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the State.
Interacting with media in Shillong on Monday was of the opinion that the BJP in its manifesto had promised to lift the ban if it comes to power in Meghalaya or its allies but till now, adding that nothing has been done.

According to reports, Pala said that he had pursued the matter with the union home ministry and other concerned ministries.
He also said that now the file is lying with the coal ministry and the BJP minister in-charge of coal is not giving a nod to it.
According to him, the counsel for the Central government had informed the Supreme Court that the home minister has no objection but permission is yet to get from the coal ministry.

Pala also said that the Congress national president Rahul Gandhi during his campaign at Jowai for the Assembly elections, 2018, had assured that if Congress comes back to power, it will advise the President of India to issue a presidential notification under Para 12 (a)(b) of the Sixth Schedule.
