The award-winning Assamese film ‘Mistake’ by Assam’s young filmmaker Xahid Khan is all set for release on June 16, 2019 the Father’s Day.

The journey of ‘Mistake’, which started last year, has already been screened in many national and international film festivals.

The film, written by Bangladeshi writer Nila Harun, will be released on Movietonne.

Informing this on his Facepage page, filmmaker Khan stated: “BigAnnouncement – The long wait is going to over soon! This Father’s Day we are releasing our Short #Mistake on Movietonne. Mark the Date 16th June 2019.”

The 7.43-minute film, ‘Mistake’, which got official selection for 11th International Guwahati Film Festival and Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, was also screened at the Emirates Short Film Festival.

At the Emirates Short Film Festival (ESFF) in Dubai, Khan’s ‘Mistake’ won the 2nd best regional film award.

It was also selected in the Top 15 category of the 6th BVFF Short Film Contest 2018.

Talking to Northeast Now regarding the journey of ‘Mistake’, Khan stated: “In a period of one year, ‘Mistake’ took us to many international film festivals and brought awards for the Northeast.”

The filmmaker said: “The film had its screening in more than 15 film festivals including Dada Saheb International Film Festival, Emirate Short Film Festival, Inshort Film Festival of Nigeria, South Asian Film Festival, GIDSAFF-18, Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival-18, Las Vegas Film Convention-19.”

Khan also informed that the film has few further screenings in some imminent film festivals.

Dedicating the film to all fathers, Khan stated: “Now, we are all set to release the film on the Father’s Day dedicating the film to all the fathers in the world.”

Stating that the film will be released on Assam’s first online movie portal movietonne.com, Khan added: “Existing users of the movietonne can watch the film by paying only Rs.10 rent basis for 24 hours and the new users have to register themselves in movitonne which is free and have to pay the same to watch which will be active for 24 hours. They can also enjoy other handpicked films from the Northeast in the portal.”

‘Mistake’ is the story of Paahi, a young girl, who messaged her boyfriend, but by mistake the message went to her father, who never had any hint about his daughter’s boyfriend.

When she came to know that the message went to her father, Paahi lost herself, thinking about what would be her father’s reaction and how would she face her father. Whether her father would react in an angry mood? What has she learnt from her mistake?

The lead role of Paahi has been played by newcomer Srishti Sarmah.

The other cast members include Prasanta Kumar Das (Paahi’s father), who featured in national award winning film ‘Aidew’ as Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, the first Assamese filmmaker and in many other feature films. He also features in popular TV series ‘Crime Virus’.

Veteran actress Jolly Laskar, a popular face of Assamese TV and drama, has played the role of Paahi’s mother in ‘Mistake’ which has been produced by Dilip Rajak.

The film has been edited by Jitu Ray while its sound has been designed by Jyoti Chetia, who has worked in many South Indian and Bollywood films including Raj Kumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’.
