World Elephant Day observed at Kaziranga; students get busy with colours

200 school students from different schools in Bokakhat drew different pictures of elephant

Along with other parts of the world, the World Elephant Day was also observed at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) at Panbari in Assam’s Kaziranga on Monday.

As part of the Elephant Day celebration, more than 200 school students from different schools in Bokakhat under Golaghat district drew different pictures of elephant.

There were students from Ayuskar Art School in Bokakhat, Institute of Art and Culture at Rajabari and other schools of Bokakhat and Kaziranga.

The programme organiosed on Monday was attended by Kaziranga National Park (KNP) director Periyasami Sivakumar, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rohini Ballav Saikia and Kushal Konwar Sarma, elephant veterinarian and Professor at the College of Veterinary Science, Assam.

The event was also attended by Assam State Bamboo Mission’s deputy director Dimpy Bora, research officer at Kaziranga National Park Rabindra Sarma, Satyapriya Shiv Kumar, local gaon burha and teachers of several schools.

KNP director Periyasami Sivakumar inaugurated the programme by colouring a picture of elephant.

The inaugural address was delivered by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) deputy director Rathin Barman.

The event was jointly organized by the KNP authority, WTI and Elephant Family at the newly-constructed Mark Chand Centre of CWRC at Panbari.

In the programme, the students, apart from painting a picture of elephant with marks of hand, had drawn different pictures of elephant on two walls.
