In a clash between members of a poachers’ gang, which planned to carry out rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park, a poacher has been gunned down at Assam’s Bokakhat under Golaghat district.

Police suspect that after killing the poacher, the other members of the gang threw the body in river Dhansiri.

A joint operation team of police and forest officials has been able to nab two poachers on charges of being involved in the killing and recovered arms.

“On Wednesday night, a gang of poachers killed a member of the same gang at Kamar Gaon under Bokakhat sub-division in Golaghat district suspecting him to be a spy of the police,” said police.

The rhino poacher identified as Dhan Bora lias Manjit Bora was killed by rhino poacher Pallab Basumatary and his gang members at Kamar Gaon on the bank of river Dhansiri, said sources.

In the meantime, a Kamar Gaon police team reached the spot and chased the poachers’ gang and was able to nab Pallab Basumatary, one of the main leaders of the gang and Harekrishna Doley of Dhansirimukh at Bokakhat.
