“This so called Republic Day of India is a confrontation to our ideals and hence we have been opposing it. We call upon all political and apolitical people of WeSEA (West Eastern South East Asia) to boycott the celebrations of this Indian political event,” the ULFA-I said in a statement.

The two outfits have called for a 17-hour total shutdown on January 26 from 0100 hours (1am) till 1800 hours (6pm) on January 26.

“However, all essential and emergency services are free to deliver their services,” ULFA-I leader Deep Asom said.

Calling for boycott of the Republic Day celebration, the ULFA-I said, “The Assam administration has placed Assam on a sacrificial platform of ‘One India, One culture and One language’ destiny.”
