2 IndiGo flights to and from Guwahati escape major mid-air crash

While one aircraft was on its way from Guwahati to Kolkata, the other flight was coming towards Guwahati from Chennai

A large number of passengers, who were on board two aircraft, escaped from a major mid-air crash in the Bangladesh sky on Wednesday evening.

According to information,  the two aircraft, which luckily escaped from a mid-air head-on collision, belonged to IndiGo Airlines. The incident took place at 5:10 pm.

While one aircraft started its journey from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati and was going towards Kolkata, the other aircraft had started its journey from Chennai Airport and was on the way towards Guwahati.

The Guwahati to Kolkata IndiGo flight was 6E 856 while the Chennai to Guwahati flight was 6E 571.

According to information, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Shah Makhdum Airport at Rajshahi had sent wrong air traffic signal due to which the two aircraft came face to face mid-air. somewhere over Rangpur in northwest Bangladesh.

However, the mishap was averted due to the alertness of the pilots of the two aircraft.
