A storm which lashed some parts of Upper Assam including Jorhat and Golaghat districts left a trail of destruction behind.
There was a power outage of about 12 hours or more in several areas in Jorhat town with trees falling and snapping electric cables and even poles being uprooted.
Consequent to the power outage, water supply also was stopped.
Roofs of several schools and colleges collapsed under broken trees or were blown off.
Likewise in the villages the gale winds took off the roofs of houses and even walls caved in with people narrowly escaping with their lives.
Farmers lamented the destruction of granaries and stocked rice.
Several roads were also blocked due to fallen trees.
As per the district administration Initial storm damage report approximately 74 villages and a population of 6456 were affected.
The number of houses fully damaged was 326 and 2475 houses were partially damaged.
Besides one college, 14 schools, two Anganwadi centres and two irrigation schemes were damaged.
Apart from these, in Murmuria tea estate, 400 houses were damaged.
The places most affected were Meleng, Teok, Mariani, Nakachari, Seleng and Tiruwal areas.
