The overflowing Brahmaputra river breached the embankment at Borjaan in Majuli in the wee hours of Sunday causing extensive damage to agricultural fields.
This has led to utter chaos among the farmer villagers of at least six villages of lover Majuli.
The affected villages are Sarighoria, Mohorichuk, Birinabari, Bormukolo and Gowalgaon.

The paddy cultivation of several hectres of land have been destroyed by the flood water that entered the agricultural land breaching the embankment.
Now the hapless farmers are at their wits’ end over the losses.
Notably, the embankment had to be repaired every year.
However, locals alleged that the district administration did not give any heed this time resulting in the breach of this embankment.
