SIH is a 36-hour competition where students of BTech/MTech/MCA programmes form teams consisting of six members and solve problems of the ministries. The presence of one girl in the team is mandatory.

Suitable nodal centres with state-of-the-art infrastructures and good manpower resources are selected for the event.

Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT), Guwahati, Assam has been selected as the only nodal centre for entire Northeast for three consecutive years – 2017-19.

GIMT organised the event in association with Ministry for Development of Northeast Region (DoNER), Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneur (MSME).

The last edition of the hackathon saw over 5 million+ students from various colleges compete for the top prize at 35+ locations.

In SIH 2020, the students would have the opportunity to work on more challenging problems.

The objectives of the fourth edition include: harness creativity & expertise of students, spark institute-level hackathons, build a funnel for ‘Startup India‘ campaign, crowdsource solutions for improving governance and quality of life and provide an opportunity to citizens to provide innovative solutions to India’s daunting problems.
