Assam Police arrest one Bikash Toporia in connection with smuggling of gold on May 21, 2018. Northeast Now

Paltan Bazar police on Monday seized four gold bars valued at around Rs 30 lakh from the possession of a youth. Police arrested one Bikash Toporia in this connection.

According to police the consignment of gold biscuits were sourced from Myanmar and was en route to Jaipur. One Naga youth handed over the gold bars to Toporia.

Smuggling of gold biscuits in the Northeastern region has increased a lot keeping the sleuths of customs and police on their toes. Recently a BJYM leader Rajiv Dhar and three of his accomplices namely Uttam Haldar, Rajesh Mandal and Jaydeb Mandal were held with gold bars from near Saraighat bridge at Jalukbari area of Guwahati.

According to police, they brought the gold biscuits in a WagonR from Howly in Barpeta district.
