The Parbatjhora police has attempted to encourage residents of the Parbatjhora sub-division in Assam’s Kokrajhar district to exercise their franchise in the Assam Assembly elections.

Kokrajhar will go to the polls during the third phase of the Assam Assembly elections on April 6.

The Parbatjhora police in collaboration with students of the Star English School and NGOs, Mukti and Muhurto organized a sensitization programme called ‘To Vote and to Vote Without Fear’ at Mahamaya in the sub-division on Sunday.

Police personnel along with students and members of the NGOs interacted with the public, urging them to exercise their franchise in a responsible manner during the Assam Assembly elections.

They also distributed handbills among the public on the occasion.

Interestingly the participants could be seen donning masks of the Golden Langur during the programme.

Parbatjhora sub-divisional police officer Trinayan Bhuyan said,” We have also used masks of the Golden Langur in a bid to grab public attention and also highlighting the fact that Chakrashika Wildlife Sanctuary in Kokrajhar is the largest habitat of the Golden Langur in the world.”

The Golden Langur is an endangered species in the world.
