Mayuri Bhattacharjee, a Sonitpur resident has started an online petition through change.org, urging people to sign it so that sanitary pads are also provided by the Assam government as flood relief.
“There’s no time to grab pads when floodwaters are fast approaching. Few can imagine the agony millions are suffering in silence,” he wrote in the petition.
“That’s why we need the government to include pads in the list of relief material in flood camps,” he further wrote.
It may be noted here that around 26 lakh people in 27 districts of the State are reeling under floods.
For them, roadside tents or relief camps have been set up by the respective district administrations.
Maintaining menstrual hygiene in such a situation is a challenge for every woman.
