Scientists have recently discovered a remarkably new frog species in Cachar district of Assam.
As per reports, the team comprised of researchers from Delhi University and Wildlife Institute of India as well as some scientists from USA and Indonesia.
The new frog species is found to be belonging to the microphylid genus Micryletta from the northeastern region of the country.
The scientific name of the frog has been given as Micryletta aishani.
The researchers have collected the frog species from a forest area in Cachar district.
After collecting the specimen, a detailed study of its morphology was conducted.
Based on the findings, the scientists have discovered it to be a new species of paddy frog. Currently there are four known species of paddy frog.
The study also revealed that this kind of paddy frog might be found in Southeast regions such as Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
The reddish brown frog has prominent dark streaks and ash grey mottling on the lateral sides and absence of web on its feet.
