On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, Assam Inland Water Transport Department has allocated eight new ferries from Kachari Ghat and Rajaduwar Ghat to Umananda Temple, from 8 AM on February 14th.

These eight ferries include Naharbill, Kaziranga, Roopkunwar, Kadam, Taranga, Baghbor, Tuni and Boginodi.

Temporary bridges have been constructed for hassle-free entry of the passengers into these ferries.

Furthermore, to prevent any unforeseen events during the day, government officials along with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) have been deployed keeping in mind the enormous flow of devotees that is witnessed in this island every year.

All private ferries have been banned for security reasons. City police have also stepped up the security in and across the premises of Umananda Temple for Maha Shivratri.
