National Award winning filmmaker Jahnu Barua is all set to direct a Hindi movie on Ahom General Lachit Borphukan.

The ‘big-budget’ movie will be produced by Guwahati-based Dream House Productionz and several other top production houses in the Country.

The movie is expected to get released by the end of year 2022.

A ‘leading actor’ of the Country will take up the role of the legendary Ahom General.

Speaking on this upcoming multi-crore project, Jahnu Barua informed that the movie will mainly focus on the famous 1671 Battle of Saraighat.

Research work for the movie has already begun under the guidance of former head of the history department at Gauhati University – JN Phukan.

“It had been my dream for 20 years to make a film on my favourite war-hero. Several plans were discussed. However, due to budgetary constraints, the mega-project could not be taken up,” said Barua.

Meanwhile, the noted filmmaker also clarified that there is no politics related to the film.

He also hoped that the Assam Government would come forward to support the initiative.

The Battle of Saraighat was a naval battle fought in 1671 between the Mughal Empire and the Ahom Kingdom, led by Lachit Borphukan, on the Brahmaputra river at Saraighat, now in Guwahati, Assam.

The Ahoms defeated the much stronger and well equipped Mughal Army by brilliant uses of the terrain, clever diplomatic negotiations to buy time, guerrilla tactics, psychological warfare, military intelligence and by exploiting the sole weakness of the Mughal forces—its navy.

Jahnu Barua is best known for critically acclaimed films such as Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai, Firingoti and Xagoroloi Bohu Door, among others.
