Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his Cabinet colleagues had a brainstorming session with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Saturday in view of the coming 2019 general elections.

During the meeting, according to sources, a detailed action plan, which needs to be implemented from October, has been chalked out.

Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and organising secretary Phani Sharma were also present in the meeting that took place at the BJP headquarters in the national capital.

Emphasis has been given on strengthening the grass-root level of the party. In this connection a massive review meeting will take place in Assam from October 1 to October 10.

“A two-day-long State level working committee meeting of the party will take place in Majuli on October 10 and October 11. BJP president Amit Shah and several other central ministers will be present in the meeting,” sources said.

The meeting also discussed about the developments that took place over NRC in the state.

According to party sources, the saffron brigade is all set to play with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue to strengthen the vote bank.

“We have reasons to tell the people of Assam who have been fighting against illegal infiltrators. We have implemented the NRC, a promise that we did during the Assembly elections,” said the sources.
