The Mahapurush Madhabdev Foundation honoured Ananda Agarwala with the Heuj Dharitri award and felicitated two others at the Gandhi Park in Jorhat on Saturday on the occasion of Martyr’s Day.
The other two individuals were actor and poet Ranjit Bordoloi and Monosmita Baruah for achieving doctorate degree from Martin Luther University, Germany in Natural Sciences.
Ratul Baruah, secretary of the organisation said Agarwala’s contribution to the greening of Jorhat was immense as he till date has planted and distributed about 6,000 saplings.
He has also set up two paid toilets at strategic locations.
The Foundation, a socio-welfare organisation, observes Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 and the death anniversary on January 30 every year.
Every winter, the Foundation also distributes blankets to destitute people.
On Saturday, the Foundation resolved to publish a magazine entitled ‘Ganatantra’ on Republic Day in 2025.
A new seven-member committee was formed with advocate Pradip Borah as the president and Ratul Baruah as the secretary.
