Imphal: In a major security operation, a joint team of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police seized a significant cache of weapons in three sensitive foothill areas of Manipur’s valley districts.

The targeted operations, launched over the past 24 hours, focused on Waithou in Thoubal district and Ishingthembi and Kongba Maru in Imphal East district.

The security forces recovered a range of weapons and explosives, including both locally-made and factory-produced pistols, rifles, shotguns, a submachine gun, a revolver, hand grenades (HE-36, Chinese grenades), mortar shells (2-inch and 81mm), and an IED, Live rounds for various firearms and magazines and walkie-talkie sets.

The recovered items were handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and potential legal action.

This operation comes amidst ongoing efforts to improve security in Manipur, a state that has grappled with internal conflicts.

The identification of 55 sensitive zones highlights the focus on targeted security measures in these areas.
