The locals of Majuli, the river island district of Assam, have taken an ambitious mission – to make Majuli free from plastic.

The locals of Majuli, have undertaken this endeavour on their own initiative to replicate the villages on the lines of Mawlynnong, the small village in Meghalaya, around 100 km  from capital Shillong that attained the unique distinction of being the cleanest village not only in India, but in Asia.

The youth of the river island villages have embarked on an ambitious cleanliness drive to achieve this feat.

Every day, locals of these villages in the district, both young and old come out with brooms in hand to clean their villages.

The villagers engage themselves in cleaning the entire surrounding every morning at day break.

With the consorted efforts by the villagers, this nondescript village in Majuli has attained a new look.

The locals are also engaged in creating awareness among the locals to keep their surroundings clean for a healthy environment.

The locals are also engaged in tree plantation in the villages for a greener environment.
