In a major development, India and Myanmar have collectively decided to take action against insurgent groups, particularly the NE militant outfits operating within the Myanmar territories on Friday.
The two countries also agreed on providing security cooperation along with international border and facilitating movement of people and trade across the international border. The decisions assume wide significance for the northeastern states as many of the insurgent outfits are still operating from the Myanmar region.

Many of the insurgent organisations including ULFA (I), NSCN (K), Manipur and North Bengal based militant organistations still have their bases in Myanmar bordering India.
The developments took place following the two-day-long 22nd National Level Meeting between India and Myanmar that ended on Friday in New Delhi.
The Indian delegation was led by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and the Myanmar delegation was led by Major General Aung Thu, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Both sides agreed to cooperate in preventing smuggling of wildlife and narcotic drugs. India and Myanmar agreed to strengthen cooperation on international border management including construction of subsidiary pillars to better demarcate the border.
The Myanmar delegation also called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
